Apple Bars
Ingredients
- Crust:
- 1 c shortening
- 2/12 c flour
- 2 t sugar
- 1/2 t salt
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 egg whites
- water
- 3 large handfuls of corn flakes
- Filling
- 8-10 large sliced apples
- 1 & 1/2 c sugar
- 1/2 t cinnamon
- Frosting
- 3 T butter
- 3/4 t vanilla
- 2+ c powdered sugar
- water
Instructions
- For crust, mix shortening, flour, sugar and salt. Put 2 egg yolks in a measuring cup and add enough water to make
2/3 cup. Add to flour mixture and mix together. Divide dough in half, roll it out, spread half on jelly roll pan
. Take 3 large handfuls of cornflakes and spread on crust.
- For filling: top wit apples, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon
- Add rest of the ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes
- Roll out other half of dough and place on top of apples.
tuck around. beat 2 egg whites until foam and spread on top of crust
- Bake at 355 degrees for 45 minutes. Let cool.
- For frosting: mix butter vanilla, and sugar. add about 2 T water to get frosting to correct consistency. Spread on bars.
